Mark Gay wins 38th Bay Country Open
The Talbot Rod & Gun Club hosted the 38th Bay Country Open on June 4, 5 & 6th at Easton, MD. Doubles started at 3pm on Friday afternoon under perfect weather conditions; seventeen shooters took to the field and Larry Seward took CH with 97. H. Matthews, RU,97: C. Willis,AA 1, 94. J. Loyola was A 1; C. Hathaway, B 1; D. Greenblatt, C 1; D. Dietz, D 1.
Saturday morning brought out 43 competitors for the 12 ga event in mid-70 degree weather with calm skies. R. Uknalis brought in the lone 100, RU was M. Gay, 99: H. Matthews, AA 1, 99; S. Smith, A 1, 98; S. Meyers, B 1, 98; B. Luttrell, C 1, 99. Local shooter and grill master, Marion Gannon took E 1 with 96.
The 20ga afternoon event ended with two 99s, R. Uknalis took CH, and H. Matthews, RU. D. Frazier was AA 1, 98; S. Smith, A 1, 97; M. Foss, B 1, 97. Shoot offs were minimal in both events, and everyone was soon gathered under the pavilion where Marion Gannon and crew started cooking the porterhouse steaks. By this time the serving tables were ready with baked potatoes, Caesar salad, sliced tomatoes and ice tea. There were enough steaks for the extra hungry, and Zeke and Gloria, registrants, even got a late lunch bonus on Sunday after putting in a long weekend.
Sunday morning brought out some stiff breezes causing some High 1 and Low 7 issues; by the 410 time at 1:30, it was emanate that a storm front was pushing eastward. The last box of the 300 flight had a lightening delay as did the 4:30 flight, plus they suffered driving rain at times also. Uknalis took the 28ga CH with 98; RU was C. Willis, 97. L. Seward, AA 1, 97; M. Gay, A 1, 97; R. Wellens, B 1; E. Durynski, C 1; R. Stas, D 1.
When the rain and thunder stopped with clear skies, M. Gay took 410 CH with 98; C. Willis, RU with 96; R. Uknalis, AA 1, 95; D. Frazier, A 1, 93; D. Dietz, D 1 with 88, the same score he shot in all gun events.
All in all, it was a great weekend and thanks to all the shooters who attended, plus special thanks to club members for preparing the meal; and to Don Proctor, V.P & House & Grounds Chairman, for a perfect setting of the grounds.
